wet walls

Restoration of walls with capillary humidity

Substrate preparation

  • Remove the old damaged plaster at least up to 1 m beyond the humidity marks, until the sound wall becomes visible

  • Remove uneven sections and possible traces of cement, gypsum and other material not belonging to the wall

  • Strip the joints between stones or bricks in depth, for at least 2 cm

Application

  • Apply using a brush or a low-pressure spray and working from the bottom upwards, two coats of RIALTO ANTISALE SA, an anti-saline dehumidifying solution composed of an inorganic acid and an alcaline earth halogen-based silicate. Dilute to 100% with water

  • In the Summer, allow at least 6 hours between first and second coat, in Winter at least 8-10 hours, but never more than 48 hours. The average covering capacity for two coats varies from 300 to 500 g/m²

  • After at least 24 hours, apply RIALTO DEUMIDIFICANTE UD, a highly water vapor permeable micro-porous plaster

  • On highly absorbing surfaces and in hot and windy days, dampen the substrate a few hours before application

  • Before use, blend in a cement-mixer a package of RIALTO DEUMIDIFICANTE UD with the following:
    5 kg of Portland Cement
    5 kg of slaked lime and 5-6 l of water

  • Apply a thin scratch coat of RIALTO DEUMIDIFICANTE UD

  • After 1-2 hours, apply a layer of coarse mortar not exceeding 2-cm in thickness

  • The dehumidifying plaster minimum thickness should not be lower than 2 cm. The average covering capacity per 2 cm thickness of the dehumidifying plaster is as follows:
    RIALTO DEUMIDIFICANTE UD: 34 kg/m²;
    Portland Cement 325: 7 kg/m²;
    RIALTO GRASSELLO RG: 7 kg/m²

  • Apply using a stainless steel trowel RIALTO MALTA FINE FM, a wet ready-to-use mortar for fine plaster composed of at least 3-month-seasoned slaked lime, free from cement and other additives, made by baking river pebbles mixed with siliceous sand in the correct granulometric proportion, with high adhesion power and water vapor permeable. Before use, it can be mixed with RIALTO COCCIOPESTO CC, made from brick powder and selected crushed terracotta shingles to induce the hydraulic reaction which improves the properties of the mortar (mechanical, physical and chemical strength reached in a shorter period of time). Average covering capacity per 1 layer of fine mortar:
    RIALTO MALTA FINE FM 2.5 kg/m²;
    RIALTO COCCIOPESTO CC 0.4 kg/m²

  • Level the surface using a sponge trowel to obtain an "fine-finished" plaster
Price for material and application, excluding any scaffolds, € ............ per m²
